The Armenian cucumber (Cucumis melo var. flexuosus), also known as snake cucumber or yard-long cucumber and locally known as “atta” in Egypt, is a unique variety of melon that resembles a cucumber in appearance and taste. Despite its name, it is botanically classified as a melon. This elongated, slender fruit can grow up to 3 feet in length and has a mild, slightly sweet flavor with a crisp texture. Its thin, pale green skin is typically ridged and can be consumed without peeling.
• In Egypt, Armenian cucumbers have been cultivated for centuries. They are typically planted in late winter along riverbanks and harvested in early summer, aligning with the cultivation practices of other melons in the region.
