Zaghloul dates are a distinctive Egyptian variety known for their deep red to burgundy skin and crisp, apple-like texture. Typically consumed fresh during the semi-ripe “khalal” stage, they offer a sweet flavor with subtle hints of astringency and notes of cinnamon and sugarcane.
• In Egypt, the harvest season for Zaghloul dates begins in the “khalal” (maturity) phase, from mid-August until the end of September. They are typically consumed at the end of this phase, when the mature fruit turns red, starting from late September or early October.
